BURLINGTON - Mona A. Murphy, 78, of Burlington died on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Burlington on Sept. 16, 1932, the daughter of the late Louis and Alice (Danis) Meunier.

She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950.

On July 4, 1951, she was married to H. Peter Murphy in St. Anthony Church in Burlington. He predeceased her on Dec. 9, 1995.

Mona worked for many years at Blodgett Oven and for several years as an office manager for the Burlington School System. She also worked as an administrative assistant for many local attorneys', Lake Champlain Motors, and assisted Warren Smith Auctioneer. She was a member of RSVP, Holy Cross and St. Mark parishes, and volunteered with the Red Cross. Mona was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She loved restoring furniture and collecting antique dishes and memorabilia that filled her home with her signature style. Family was extremely important to her and she hosted many gatherings at her home with her husband, Peter, particularly New Years Day reunions, where she delighted in cooking and feeding all of her guests.

She is survived by her two children, Colleen Murphy of Burlington, Patrick Murphy and wife, Julie, of Scarborough, ME; seven grandchildren, Lauren McLaughlin and husband, Luke Sullivan, Ryan McLaughlin and wife, Christina, Peter, Marin, Christin, Brianna, and Erin Murphy; and by her greatgranddaughter, Rowan Murphy Sullivan. Mona is also survived by four brothers, Deacon Louis Meunier and wife, Helen, of So. Burlington, Clarence Meunier of So. Burlington, Ronald Meunier of Colchester, and Richard Meunier and wife, Marguerite, of Shelburne; and by her sister-in-law, Anne Marie Meunier of So. Burlington.

She was predeceased by her son, Michael in 2001; and her brother, Robert in 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Colchester. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
