Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Sarah Saunders Self. She married Benjamin Wright on Feb. 4, 1820 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Her sister, Martha "Patsy" Self, married Benjamin's brother, Robert Wright.

On Mar. 20, 1864, their son Moses Winslow Wright, named after a paternal uncle, died while serving the Confederacy during the Battle of Ware Bottom Church in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Moses's widow, Susannah Carpenter Wright is buried nearby at Friendship United Methodist in Fallston, NC.
