Wife to Joshua Carman, son of James L. Carman.

From the newspaper, The Manhattan Republic, Friday, May 8, 1896, Vol. XXI, No. 1009, Page 1: Mrs. Mary Carman, wife of Joshua Carman, of Sedalia, died very suddenly Monday night, at the age of 66. She retired about 9 o'clock in the evening, as well as usual, and about 11 o'clock she awoke feeling very sick. She woke her husband and son and they assisted her to rise, when she sank down and expired. Heart disease was the cause of death. Mrs. Carman was one of the old settlers of Riley County, and was very highly respected. She is survived by her husband and five children, Mrs. W. A. Stanfield, Mrs. L. Wire, Henry, Joe and Ellsworth Carman.

"The parents of our subject [Lawrence W. CROWL ed note - brother to Mary Crowl] were John and Lydia Ann (Majors) CROWL, of the State of Maryland, the father having been born in Frederick County, in 1804. They grew to maturity in their native State, and were there married, removing after a few years to Ohio. Mr. CROWL, Sr., was a farmer, and as a pioneer of Columbiana County, he cleared a farm, on which he lived till early in the '50's, when with his family he went to Illinois. There he located in Hancock County, and continued his former occupation, dying in that county in 1869, aged sixty-six years. The mother had departed this life in the Buckeye State 1846. Their family consisted of ten children, eight of whom lived to maturity."
