Mrs. Hensley was born June 21, 1915, in Keezletown, and had lived in Elkton and her last years in Penn Laird. She was the daughter of the late William Verner Higgs and Lady Claire Huffman Higgs.
She was married to the late Wilson Ottobein Hensley, who preceded her in death on June 20, 1976, as well as two brothers, Laird Elwood Higgs and Hugh Huffman Higgs and sons-in-law, John Thomas Scott and R. Jeffrey Gooden.
Mrs. Hensley is survived by four children, Wilsene Scott of Penn Laird, Jack Hensley and Peggy of Shenandoah, Jeddie Hensley and friend, Shelvy Jenkins, of Shenandoah, and Cynthia Ludholtz and husband, William III, of Zenda; as well as 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Massanutten Presbyterian Church and the Keezletown FCE Club, as well as the Elkton Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary, The Eastern Star and the Junior Order Auxiliary. She was active in assisting with the update of The Descendants of John Hottle of Shenandoah County.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, Sept. 17, 2013, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville with the Rev. Ann Pettit and the Rev. John Leggett officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Massanutten Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall Renovation Fund or the charity of your choice.
