Margaret Ann "Margie" (Gillen) Denny, age 80 of Logan, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Rockmill Rehabilitation Center- Carroll, Ohio after an extended illness.
Born February 11, 1930 in Wellston, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Judge Roy John and Myrna Ruth (Estes) Gillen.
Margie was a 1948 graduate of Wellston High School in Wellston, Ohio; she attended Denison University and was a graduate of Ohio University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in education in 1952. Margie began her teaching career as a music teacher in the Hocking County School System where she taught at South Bloomingville, Rockbridge, Gibsonville and Union Furnace Elementary Schools. She then taught kindergarten for twenty-nine years at West Elementary School in the Logan-Hocking School District prior to her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Logan, Ohio where she served as a former choir director and she was the music accompanist for the former Hocking County Variety Shows.
She is survived by one daughter, Denise Ann Whalen of Logan, Ohio; granddaughter, Allison Ann (Fiancé, Patrick Kelley) Whalen; two sisters, Lenoir Frick of Lancaster, Ohio and Louise Harrison of Cincinnati, Ohio; Sister-in-Law, Wilma Lehman of Logan, Ohio and many nieces, nephews and dear friends
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, W. Wayne Denny (2001), three brothers, John C. Gillen M.D., Joe Gillen and William H. Gillen
Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Roberts Funeral Home Logan, Ohio with the Reverend Gerald L. Frazee officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery Logan, Ohio.
