Archie Clinton Dunsmoor, 84, of Eugene and formerly of La Grande died June 9. A remembrance gathering took place July 22 in Eugene.

Archie was born on March 6, 1923, to Lloyd and Wave Daugherty Dunsmoor in Portland. He married Shirley Petersdorf on Sept. 18, 1944, in Miami Beach, Fla.

Dunsmoor served as a naval officer in World War II with the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from Western Oregon University and a master's degree from University of Oregon. Archie worked as a teacher and coach for 41 years at Redmond elementary and high schools and later worked at Eastern Oregon University and at Consumnes River College in Sacramento until retiring.

Survivors include a son, Wally, of British Columbia, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 1992.
