Winnie Belle Sanders
Winnie Belle Sanders, Daughter of Elijah and Ann Sanders was born February 3rd, 1863 in Danville, Illinois and passed away at her home here in Ulysses on Monday, December 18th at the age of 87 years, 19 months and 18 days. She came with her parents to Nebraska while still a child. On June 13th 1880 she was united in marrage with Samuel Sleight at the home of her parents, the ceremony performed by her father. After their marriage they resided near Bruno, Nebraska until 1899, moving from there to the farm north of Ulysses and remained there until 1909 when they moved to their present home.
Her husband preceeded her in death on February 1, 1927.
Mourning her are two sons, Charles R and Henry B. Sleight of Ulysses, two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Adams of North Loup, Nebraska and Mrs. Jessie Baumgardner of Long Beach California; four sisters, 1 brother, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She united with the Christian Church in 1901, remaining a faithful member until her passing.
Funeral Services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20th at the Christian Church of Ulysses. Rev. Melvin Zichek officiated. Mrs. Ben Heard was organist and accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Carl Diers who sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages".
Pallbearers were grandsons and grandson-in-laws; George Woodruff, Burton White, Hillis Coleman, Sam Sleight, Frank Sleight and John Hoeft.
Burial was in Ulysses Cemetery.
Coming from a distance were; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Adams, Loup City, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Sleight and son, North Platte, Mr. and Mrs. Orland Eaton of Aurora; and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hall of Waverly; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bockmuller of Eagle; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bell and children of Lincoln; Mrs. Morris Merryman (Norma) and Jean Shickley, Mrs. Lula Jones, Mrs. Frank Gibson Keefer of St. Edward; Mrs. Gilbert Gibson Rose of Central City and Beverly Rose of Central City.
