Donald was living in Lynwood, California when he enlisted in the Marines 17 June 1966, at a Los Angeles Recruiting Office. Somewhere along the way he married Elizabeth.
Upon arriving in Vietnam 21 February 1968, Donald was assigned to Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Allen Brock in the vicinity of Le Bac (1), Noi Island and 7 kilometers southeast of the Dai Loc-Ainghia Bridge when contact was made with a large-sized group of hostile forces.
The Marines had 15 KIA's, 78 WIA's and 6 MIA's during the fierce fighting that lasted until evening time when the battalion set-up a perimeter.
Donald and another Marine were helping with a wounded Marine when Donald was shot and died as a result of a gunshot wound to the body from hostile small arms fire.
Donald served his country for 2 years.
Survived by his wife, Elizabeth L Jones of 4196 Walnut Avenue, Lynwood, California and his parents, Volney B Jones and Mildred Schwatz both of unknown addresses.
