Henry Ford Ambrose
Henry Ford Ambrose, 82, passed away peacefully at West Jacksonville Health and Rehab in Jacksonville, FL, on May 18, 2004.
Born in Clyo, GA, on April 21, 1922, to the late John David Ambrose, Sr. and the late Ida Helmey Ambrose, he was named after long time family friend Henry Ford. After graduating from Marlow High School, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the Robert E. Peary during WW II. As a 35 year employee of Chicago Bridge & Iron Co., he supervised the construction of the Savannah World Globe located at DeRenne and Abercorn.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Sidney Thomas (Joyce) of Callahan, FL, Mrs. Terry VanLoo (Brenda) of Forest Grove, OR; Mrs. Tracy Young (Greta) of Gautier, MS; Ms. Helga Odom of Pascagoula, MS; one son, Mr. David Ambrose (Patricia) of Birmingham, AL; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Smith (Lois) of Midway, GA; Mrs. Harold Ferry (Evelyn) of Kansas City, KS; one brother Mr. Maynard Ambrose (Pat) of Kissimmee, FL; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Ruth Davis of Orlando, FL and four brothers, H. Bruton Ambrose of Savannah, GA; Leroy K. Ambrose of Jesup, GA; John D. Ambrose, Jr. of Savannah, GA and Mittry Ambrose of Savannah, GA.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 20 at the funeral home.
