Josephine "Jo" Allesee, 86, of La Porte, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011 in La Porte Hospital.

She was born July 6, 1924, in La Porte, daughter of Benjamin and Edna (Grimes) Pate.

Jo graduated in 1942 from La Porte High School, She retired in 1988 after 30 years with La Porte Community School Corporation. At retirement she was assistant to Dwight Tallman, assistant superintendant. She was a member of First Baptist Church, AARP, American Heart Association, Republican Women, 463 GOP Club, 40 and over Dance Club and The La Porte Hospital Auxiliary as an active volunteer for 27 years and holding offices such as past vice president and assistant treasurer. Jo and her husband, George were avid La Porte High School Slicer fans.

She was married on June 11, 1944, in Denver, Colo., to George Allesee Jr., who survives.

Also surviving are her two children, David (Shirley) Allesee of Waterford, Wis., Nancy (John) Allesee-Richmond of Lake Tahoe, Calif., two grandchildren, Sara (Jon) Klepp of Waterford, Wis., Maria Allesee (Dwayne) Sweeney of Rochester, Wis,; two great-grandchildren, Paiton and Addison Klepp and sister, Betty Kuhnke of Arlington Heights, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, George Allesee III who preceded her in death in 1964; and sisters, Louise Pate and Juanita Stevens.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Cutler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte.
