Wife of Maurice D. "Nick" Hunter
THE MISSOURIAN:
"VERNA HUNTER, 90, Union, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011. Mrs. Hunter was born near Union, Missouri on December 22, 1920, the daughter of Emil Holtgrewe and wife, Amelia, nee Huxel.
She was baptized in infancy at Zion Evangelical Church and confirmed there in 1932. Mrs. Hunter received her schooling first at Sand Hill School until she was ten and then went to Union Grade School where she graduated in 1938.
She was employed in shoe work for forty years at Carmo, Bourbeuse and Brown Shoe companies.
On October 29, 1944, she was married to Maurice "Nick" Hunter and she was blessed with two children, Alvin Hunter and LaNora Mossoney, nee Hunter, both of Union.
She was active in church work as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, Junior High Sponsor, paper mailing and much more until 1986 when a brain operation left her partially paralyzed.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and one beloved brother.
She is survived by one sister, Della Steelman; two sisters-in-law, Lois Bailey & Bernice Holtgrewe; one son, Alvin Hunter; one daughter, LaNora Mossoney; one son-in-law, Daniel Mossoney; a former daughter-in-law, Pam Hunter; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 11, at Zion United Church of Christ, Union, with the Rev. Mike Bone officiating.
She was laid to rest in the church cemetery on Wednesday, May 11. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Zion United Church of Christ. The Hunter family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, Missouri."
