Letter from Jode (Campbell) Chambers to her brother, DBC, during WW-II - dated: Wed Oct 4 (1944) said they buried Grandpa W in Ridgeview Cem. [sic] [actually Ridgewood Cemetery] "(west) of Glenview". Jody also mentions Aunt Lu living in KC MO and later Olive W went out for a 7 or 10 day visit. John William WALLENIUS was the father of Olive, Lucile, Edith & Arthur.

John W. may have been 89 years old according to one letter. Another letter said he was 88 in sept 1944 and would be 89 in Dec 1944.

I just got a call back from the cemetery. John W died 1 Oct 1944 and was buried 4 Oct 1944 but it was a "single grave purchase" so Josephine WALLENIUS is not nearby and not in their records. Could check with the SocSec Master Death Index and might locate an accurate birth date for John W. that way.

I've added a link to a Josephine "Josy" Wallenius buried in Montrose Cemetery, Chicago, Cook, Illinois - apparently the victim of an epidemic around 1908. Scroll to the bottom and click the spouse link. Hopefully that is the correct person. Probably need to order death certificates for those as well to confirm it.

Additional info from Cemetery visit on 27 July 2012: their original yellow card spells his name incorrectly as Wallenus instead of Wallenius - but they might correct it or at least add a corrected cross-reference card. He is buried on the SE side of cemetery where there is a large marker for the "Swedish Covenant Old People's Home" . There is a small, flat, but slightly raised bronze marker for a woman, Anna A. Sundeen in Section 26, 195, Space 33. Her bronze marker is NE of the large granite Covenant memorial, and E of the circle drive, just W of the large evergreen tree. John W.'s grave is in the same row, 3 spaces south of hers in space # 36. i.e. about 9' south of the bronze marker. A small gray granite flush memorial about 12" x 24" would run about $1,500 installed.

As a challenge, this cemetery has over 57,000 interments, and FAG only has about 5,000 entries as of Feb 2011. That means 90% aren't entered yet - AND - the management wasn't interested in cooperating on mass data entry due to privacy concerns. They also don't want people wandering through their cemetery taking photos of ALL the stones in there. Their records are paper based and older ones are archived in their vault. They also don't have a website.

According to the 1900 Chicago census which was taken 11 Jun 1900, they had been married for 16 years - so they may have been married around 1884. That same census indicates that John immigrated in 1882 and Josephine immigrated in (what appears to read 1889). Did John come over in 1892, return to Sweden around 1884 to marry Josephine? Did he stay there and return in 1889 with Josephine? Or is one of the dates a typo?

Based on a quick search for "Swedish Covenant" "Old People's Home" and "Norwood Park", it suggests that the "old folks home" may have been one of the following:

Heights. Chas. Stier, Superintendent ; age limit, sixty years ; compensation —
sixty to seventy years, $500 ; seventy to eighty years, $400 ; eighty years and over,

Ellison. Superintendent; age limit, sixty years; compensation — sixty years, $300;
