Rudolph Todd passed away in April after several years of suffering from various illnesses that would have made a complainer out of a lesser person. But he was a quiet man who seemed to accept his problems as something beyond his control and not cause for remorse.
A retired merchant and farmer, he had been struck with cancer in 1977 and lost one of his lungs then. A year later, he had a heart attack, and that kept him sidelined from business the rest of his life. At 66 and after a 47 year marriage, he died suddenly with another heart attack.
He was a man who loved children, although he never had any of his own. He loved animals to his death, he asked his wife about taking off a couple of days and going to Santee just for a look around. It almost seemed like he had a premonition of death. They made the trip, visited with some old friends and fishing camp cronies. It was an enjoyable few days and they returned home happy. A fortnight later he died.
Everything passes away but Rudolph lived a full life and had a host of friends, and few enemies if any. That's about all anyone can expect from the short span we are assigned in this world. W.H.C.
