Bruce Morton Garver, who manages this Memorial and wrote the following "bio" of Rachel (Shields) Richey (1783-1864), is related to Rachel through her son-in-law, Dr. Henry Fisher Garver (1824-1902) who is a nephew of Bruce Garver's great-great-great grandfather Jacob Garver (April 5, 1794, to Feb. 26, 1868). Bruce is a fifth cousin of Dennis irvin Knox who created this Memorial to Rachel (Shields) Richey, one of his maternal third great-grandmothers.

Thomas Richey was born on September 30, 1777, in the state of Virginia to Robert Richey and Martha Jane Richey. In 1802, Thomas Richey wed Rachel Shields (Richey, 1783-1864) with whom he raised two children (1) Robert Richey (1806–1875) had three children by his first wife, Anna (Jordan) Richey, and six children by his second wife Elizabeth (Gwinn) Richey. (2) During the War of 1812, Private Thomas Richey served in Asa Hinkles' Company of the Ohio Militia, a Company that was recruited primarily among young men who resided in or near Hamilton, seat of Butler County, Ohio. Thomas Richey died on August 30, 1858, at the home of his daughter, Esther Ann [Richey] Garver, and her husband, Dr. Henry Fisher Garver, at Billingsville in Union County, Indiana.
