KINMUNDY - Helen (Bassett) O'Dell, Kinmundy, formerly of Galesburg, passed away Feb. 14, 2011, in Effingham. She was 76.
Mrs. O'Dell was born May 19, 1934, near Kinmundy to Clyde and Mamie Bassett. She married Lewis T. O'Dell on Sept. 4, 1956. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
She was a former operator for General Telephone Company in several southern Illinois communities, including Kinmundy, Effingham, Carbondale and Sparta. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kinmundy and was involved in numerous ministries and outreach programs.
She is survived by two sons, Cary O'Dell of Culpepper, Va., and Les O'Dell of Carbondale; as well as a daughter-in-law, Christine O'Dell; and two grandchildren, Grant and Sarah O'Dell, also of Carbondale. Additionally, she leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Robert Ford of Alma; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kent and Rena O'Dell of Kinmundy; and two sisters-in-law, Kathleen O'Dell of Shiloh and Marilyn Black of Carbondale; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
