Death of Mrs Herbert Duncan

Mrs Mona Woirhaye Duncan, wife of Mr Herbert Duncan, and daughter of Mr and Mrs John L Woirhaye, passed from earth to heaven on Saturday morning, April 23, 1921, at 2 o'clock, after an extended and distressing illness - for a long time confining her to bed. She had been married six years to a tenderly devoted husband, and is survived by one child - an exceptionally bright and sweet little girl - Celeste - aged almost three years.

Always extremely popular by reason of her kindly sensibilities and thoughtfulness as to others, her natural appeal to the public heart was reinforced by the helplessness of her condition during her illness. Few other persons in this community. at any time, have so drawn upon the sympathy of acquaintances. Then there was her youthfulness, for she was inly 25 years old when she was taken away from her dearly loved ones, under circumstances that could only produce the very extreme of sadness and sorrow and weeping. Everybody loved her. She had been an exemplary Christian several years, affiliated with the Baptist church of New Castle.

The funeral occurred from the home near town on Monday afternoon, April 25, at 2 o'clock. The services were conducted by her pastor Rev R K Redwine, who preached a very suitable and comforting sermon. Rev M Combs of the Methodist church also had a part. Tender music was rendered by a choir, taken from all the churches. The floral offerings were rich and handsome suggestive of the pure spirit that was gone.

The attendance was very large. Seldom, if ever, has there been so long a funeral procession at New Castle. Besides relatives, there were friends from Shelbyville, Owenton, Carrollton, and other towns, as well as from all over this county.

The mother, the father, the husband are inconsolable. And the little child - God bless her!

Interment at New Castle Cemetery.
