Harrison B. York was born Dec 5, 1833. in Burlington, VT., the son of D.H. York & Laura (Barnes)York, who were both born in VT. (D.H.York was a native of Conn. & a son of Amos York of Scottish ancestry.) Laura Barnes was born near St Albans, VT. daughter of Stephen Barnes, a soldier in the War of 1812.
Harrison married Ann Eliza Sherman, a daughter of Jacob & Mary Sherman, July 1, 1853, in Chardon, Ohio. 3 Sons: Ed.E, firstborn, died in Willoughby, Ohio, aged 23;
R.E. York of E.Saginaw, Mich., and Clarence H., of Chicago, Ill. Ann E.(Sherman) was buried in Bedford Cemetery, Bedford, Ohio, Dec 5, 1862, one week before Harrison was promoted to Captain. (Civil War Data Systems)

Harrison B. York was 27 years old when he enlisted on Oct 11, 1861,and on the same day, he was mustered into the Ohio 9th Light Artillery as a Qtr Master Sergent. (This unit was organized Oct 11, 1861, at Camp Wood, Cleveland, Ohio, as a 3-year Artillery Battery) He was promoted to 2nd Lieut. on Sept 11, 1862, and to Captain on Dec 12, 1862.The battery took an active part in the battle of Cumberland Gap, and later was under General Schofield's command, Twentieth Army Corps, First Division. Later, under Gen. Slocum, he was promoted to the rank of Chief of Artillery, passed an examination and became a Major of Heavy Artillery.

At Triune, Tennessee, June 11, 1863, Major York was severely injured. Because of this injury, he received a pension.
He was Mustered Out on July 25, 1865.

He married (2)Hulda M.Sherman, sister of his first wife, September 11 or 13, 1865. Children: Clarence H, born ca 1861; Phineas W., born ca 1867; Mary E., born ca 1870.
Hulda was buried in Bedford Cemetery, Bedford, Ohio, May 1, 1883.
Harrison B. York married(3)Mrs. Jane B.(Snedeker)Holcomb, widow of Thomas J. Holcomb, a soldier of the Civil War. She was a daughter of C.M. and Amelia (Leach) Snedeker.

H.B.York had come as a child to Bedford, Ohio, then to Munson, Geauga Co. until 1866. He was a builder & contractor in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He was a member of N.L. Norris Post, GAR.
Captain Harrison B. York died of heart disease in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, November 14,1909, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and nine days. He was buried Nov 16, 1909,in Evergreen Cemetery, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. (Certificate of Death,File No. 55231, register No.20)
