Bissel Burr was born December 14, 1771, in Farmington, Hartford Co., CT, the son of Nathaniel and Abigail (Strong) Burr. His father, a native of Connecticut, was of old Puritan stock.
On September 30, 1794, Bissel married Eunice Robbins, in Kingsbury, Washington Co., NY. Bissel and Abigail had ten [known] children: Wareham Bissel (Nancy Cummings); Nathaniel Robbins; Orenda (Dyer Williams); Vorintha; Samuel S.; Chauncy Hazelton (Jane Williams); Alvin S. (Lavina Conn); Myranda Lorenzo (Emily Ellis); Sylvester R. (Elizabeth J. Rodgers); and Sallie R.
Bissel moved, with his family, to Butler Co., OH in 1820, and to Shelby Co., IN in 1822. In August 1836, his wife died and he returned to Ohio, and made his home with his son, Alvin, until Alvin moved to Iowa, then he came back to Indiana and lived with his son, Chauncey. Later Alvin returned to Henry Co., IN and Bissel lived with him until his death in April of 1845.
