Childress – Graveside rites for former resident A. J. "Andy" Rogers, 55, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Childress Cemetery.

The Wellington National Guard conducted a military service followed with Masonic Rites lead by Childress Lodge No. 695. Burial was under the direction of Newberry Funeral Home. Andrew Jacob Rogers died Saturday, September 13, 1980, in Temple following a long illness.

Memorial services were held Sunday in Round Rock where he had been living for several years.

Born December 24, 1924 in Fort Worth, he grew up on a farm northeast of Childress and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. After graduating from Texas A&M:, he returned to Childress and was later elected to two terms in the House of Representatives, then served 14 years as State Senator. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge and the Elks.

Survivors include his wife Billie of Round Rock; five daughters, Melissa Lindsay of Austin, Mrs. Wayne Allison of Houston, Mrs. Ed Bland of Carthage, Mrs. Bryan Alexander of Austin, Mrs. Gary Molberg of Amarillo; two sons, Jake Rogers of Round Rock and Leslie Lindsay of Austin; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Carroll Seal, Alex Saied, Buddy Wilcoxson, Darrell Burrows, Granger McIlhany and A. L. Schwartz. Honorary pallbearers were past governors, Dolph Briscoe, Preston Smith and Price Daniel.
