From an old newspaper clipping, found at LCGS, dated July 23, 1927. 'After several weeks of patient suffering, Johnny Humphries, age 41 years, died at 6:30 o'clock this morning at St. Joseph's Infirmary. Surviving are his wife, his mother, and four sisters. Mrs. F. J. Dohoney and Mrs. Claud Ferguson of Paris, Mrs. Harry Garrett of Dallas and Mrs. Jack Barry of Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home of Claud Ferguson, 386 Pine Bluff street. Interment will be made at Evergreen Cemetery. These friends of deceased have been chosen to serve as pall bearers: Will Hinkle, Ralph Matthiessen, Hugh Campbell, Carl McWharter, H. L. Baker, and John James. Services will be conducted by Rev. F. M. Richardson, pastor of the First Methodist Church.

Johnny Humphries was one of the best known office men in Texas, having been connected with some of the foremost contracting firms in the world, both in domestic and foreign service. He was an ardent supporter of baseball and other sports, and served the Paris Baseball Assocation as secretary two years ago. For a time he was sports writer for the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

His passing is an irreparable loss to his family and friends.
