Ardmore — Ronald George Shannon, 76, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011, at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest with Reverend Tony Caro of First United Methodist Church of Ardmore officiating. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, Okla. George was born on October 27, 1934, to Mr. Robert E. Shannon and Mrs. Louise C. (Zeck) Shannon in Wichita, Kansas.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise Shannon, Wichita, Kansas; brother, Bobby Shannon, Arizona; sister, Dixie Krueger, Arizona; sister-in-law, Shirley Mitzner; brothers-in-law; Don Drullinger, Homer Potter, Bill Weatherbie, Firpo Smith, and Howard Smith.

In 1955, he entered service to our country with the U.S. Army and served with the First Guard Company in Ft. Leavenworth (KS) Disciplinary Barracks, until he was honorably discharged in 1963. He married his lovely wife, Elizabeth Ann Potter, on December 26, 1962, in Manhattan, Kansas. After his military service, he began his career with REA Express. He worked his way up to Terminal Manager, which brought him to Oklahoma. Once REA Express closed their doors, he went to work for Phillips Industries as the Fleet Manager, in El Reno, Okla. He worked there until his first retirement in 1990.

He and his wife moved to Ardmore where they had enjoyed so many years of vacationing with their daughters and fishing in Lake Murray. George worked several years after retirement with Ellsworth Trucking as a dispatcher until finally retiring full-time in late 1999. He loved fishing, walking his dogs, and giving everyone a "hard time" with his fun-loving teasing. His grandchildren were the pride of his life and he so loved watching his grandson play the trumpet and his granddaughter singing her beautiful songs. His family will truly miss this well-respected and admired man.

George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Ann (Potter) Shannon; two daughters, Kelly Shannon, Ardmore and Valerie Jordan, Ardmore; grandson, Cory Mitchell Jordan, Ardmore; granddaughter, Brooke Elizabeth Eubanks, Ardmore; sister, Nadene Drullinger, Arizona; sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Harold Hardesty, Wichita; sister Betty Sublett; sisters-in-law, Margaret Weatherbie, Gail Potter, Pat Smith, and Lucille Smith; brother-in-law, Johnny Mitzner; former son-in-law, Tony Eubanks; many loved nieces and nephews; beloved family friends, including Trish Coats, Randy Stiner, Margaret Tollison, Richard and Ronnell Dove and many others; jis beloved pets Jenny, Jiffy, Jerry, Fat Cat and grandpuppies Jack and Bear.

Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Stiner, Richard Dove, Donald Tollison, Cory Jordan, Roger Wood, and Terry Myer. Honorary bearers will be Mark Mitzner and Col. Billy Gene Tollison.

Visitation with family will be Monday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at Griffin-Hillcrest,
