M.P. BONNETT DIES AT FAMILY HOME
Marcelus Parsons Bonnett, 76, son of one of Eugene's oldest families, died Tuesday morning at his home, 159 Seventh avenue west. He was born February 15, 1864, on the homestead of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Bonnett, five miles north of Eugene near the old Coburg bridge. His parents crossed the plains from Iowa in 1854, and were the third family to settle in Eugene. Their daughter, Emily was the first white child born in Eugene.
In 1885, Mr. Bonnett went to eastern Oregon, where he spent 20 years on a cattle ranch with his brother, Charles. In 1906, he returned to Eugene, where he had since lived. On June 1, 1915, Mr. Bonnett married Edith J. Schulze in Hollywood, California.
Mr. Bonnett was a member of the First Christian church of Eugene, and a past member of the Elks' lodge. Besides his wife, he is survived by one stepson, William Schulze of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Brown of San Francisco; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Alfred, Charles, Marion, Perry, Martin and Cephus; and two sisters, Perlina and Emily.
Funeral arrangements will be announced from the Branstetter-Simon chapel. ~~END~~~

Edith J. Sessions was first married to Emil F. Schultz before her marriage to Marcellus Parsons Bonnett.
Marcelus Bonnett's sister, Perlina E. (Bonnett) Thomas is also buried in Gillespie Cemetery.
