Lawrence R. Daiss Sr., 83, died Wednesday
at home after a long illness.
He was born in Eustis, Neb., and
spent most of his life in Savannah. He
was a member of Montgomery Presbyterian
Church, Solomons Lodge No. 1
F &A.M., York Rite Bodies of Savannah,
and Alee Temple Shrine where he was a
member of the Alee Temple Patrol Unit.
He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 183
and White Star Order of the Eastern Star.
He attended St. Regis College on a football
scholarship in Denver. He was a former
owner of Daiss Oil Co. for 16 years,
retiring in 1975 and was a volunteer at
Candler Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Helena K.
Daiss of Savannah; three sons, Kenneth
and Raymond Daiss Jr., both of Savannah,
and Del Burch Jr. of Greenville,
S.C.; a daughter, De lores Osborne of Oak
Ridge, Tenn.; a brother, Glenn Daiss of
Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Norma
Paterson of Milpitas, Calif.; 14 grandchildren
; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Fox and
Weeks Funeral Directors, burial in Hillcrest
Abbey Memorial Park.
Remembrances: The Shriner's Crippled
Children Hospital, Elk's Educational
Scholarship Fund and any charity of
choice.
