Vickie, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away surrounded by family on January 10, 2011 in Colorado Springs, CO after a heroic battle with cancer.

Vickie was born in St. Joseph, MO to George and Mary Simon on November 30, 1945. She married her high school sweetheart and moved to Ventura, CA as a young adult, where she spent most of her life. Vickie and her husband Gary have been part-time residents of Colorado Springs for the last eight years.

Vickie was primarily a mother and homemaker but worked as a bookkeeper/cashier for a local supermarket for ten years. She was happiest when she was outside and active. Although for many years she enjoyed being in her yard taking care of her roses and fruit trees, she was at her best on a trail.

She loved hiking, motorcycling and biking but nothing compared to being on a horse. Some of her most cherished memories are of horseback riding in the mountains of Colorado. Vickie was an active member of the Ute Pass Social Club and was blessed with many friendships from the ladies at that club.

Vickie is survived by: her husband Gary; her son Rick Newton, his wife Joanne and their daughters, Jayme and Jenna of San Diego, CA; her daughter Wynde Maready, her husband Brian and their children, Rylie, Vance and Ellia Mae of Colorado Springs, CO; and her brother Mike Simon and his wife Anita of Clarksdale, MO.

She was Mokie or Moka to her grandchildren and delighted in any activity that involved them. Vickie embraced the Catholic faith and put her trust in Christ.

A Celebration of Life gathering at the family home will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
