Moses Cockrell/Cottrell was the son of Simon Cottrell/Cockrell and Mary Magadlene Vardaman Cockrell.
Moses wed Barthenia Chadwell ca 1793 in Virginia.
they had the following children: Elizabeth "Betsy" Cottrell/Rowland/Russell, and David Chadwell Cottrell.
"Moses served two terms in the Virginia Legislature. He was a large man weighing well over 200 pounds. He had large salt wells in Lee County and one night he dreamed that there was a white otter at the bottom of one of the wells. At daybreak he made his men lower him into the well. The basket broke, carrying him to the bottom of the well and to his death. This was around 1800, Ether, Lee Co., Va."
It is not know exactly where Moses is buried as there are no know records found of his burial but he rests in the Lee County Virginia soil.
