Elizabeth (Lane) Leech Lord's First husband was Isaac Daniel Leech. As a young widow she married William Rufus Bicklen Lord.

Elizabeth Lane age 18 can be found in the 1860 U.S. Census under (Elizh) Lane living with her father Edward Lane (Philadelphia carriage maker) and her stepmother Lora (sic-Laura) Lane. Brother John Lane 16, half-sisters Alverda Lane 10, and Lora (sic-Laura) Lane age 2. Another child half-brother Edward Jr. was born in 1862 according to the 1870 U.S. Census. Elizabeth's birth mother Catharine Harding/Hardin and first wife of Edward Lane died on 31 October 1847 at age twenty-seven. Source: Public Ledger Philadelphia PA. of 2 November 1847.

"Lizzie" Lane daughter of Edward Lane, Esq., married first Isaac Daniel Leech on 27 November 1862 (Thanksgiving Day) all of West Philadelphia. Marriage solemnized by the Reverend F. C. Pearson as reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer on 18 December 1862. Parents of Isaac are William Maximillian Leech and his wife Rosina Kochersperger Leech.

Elizabeth and Isaac had a daughter that was born on 25 April 1864 and died soon after her birth. She was Isaac's only child. (See birth certificate attached to this Memorial page) This child and her father Isaac Daniel Leech both died in 1864. He died on 10 June 1864

From the book Maximilian Leech (1763-1815) of Blockley and Kingsessing, by William Brooke Fetters, 2003, Isaac "while working as a train dispatcher his arm was accidentilly crushed between two cars, and he died, at the age of 22, following its amputation. Elizabeth his wife remarried to Mr. Lord."

(Note by ck: Isaac died in 1864 and his widow Elizabeth and William Rufus Bicklen Lord were married in 1868.)

I have not been able to find out where the child of Elizabeth and Isaac Leech (her first husband) is buried. I did not find her grave in the Grove Section of Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill Pennsylvania where her father Isaac D. Leech is buried along with his parents and sister. I hope to find the grave of the child's grandmother Catharine (Harding/Hardin) Lane and perhaps find the baby is buried in the same place.

Elizabeth (Lane) Leech then married William Rufus Bicklen Lord on June 18, 1868. Son of Simeon Lord and his wife Sarah Wood (Verlenden) Lord. Elizabeth and "Rufus" as he liked to be called had eleven children. In the order of their birth they are: Catherine Hardin Lord named after her maternal grandmother - Catharine (Hardin/Harding) Lane; Margaret Leech Lord named after her mother's deceased first husband's sister - Margaret (Leech) Downs; William Rufus Bicklen Lord; Elizabeth Lane Lord - named after her mother Elizabeth (Lane) Lord; Sarah Wood Lord named after her paternal grandmother Sarah Wood (Verlenden) Lord; Rosina Lord; Susanna Donaldson Lord; John Lord named after a brother of his father; Caroline Virginia Lord; Horace Lord; and Simeon Lord named after his paternal grandfather Simeon Lord.

Her daughter Elizabeth Lane Lord (never married) was cremated. As recorded in the memories of her sister Margaret Leech (Lord) Gallant.

Because I have not been able to find where her first child (a female) born with her first husband Isaac Daniel Leech is buried, that child is not listed along with all of her children in the section below entered on Find A Grave.
