Major League Baseball Player. For ten seasons (1956 to 1965), he played at the outfielder position with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Braves, Kansas City Athletics, Baltimore Orioles and California Angels. Born in San Fransisco, he attended Galileo High School before being signed as an amateur free agent by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1949. He marked his Major League debut with Brooklyn on April 19th, 1956 and appeared in 73 games that season with the Dodgers' team which won the National League Pennant; he was used in 1 game during the 1956 World Series without recording an at bat. In 1957, he achieved career-highs in hits with 155 and batting average with with .293 earning him All-Star status, and following the Dodgers' relocation to Los Angeles, Cimoli would claim the distinction as being the first player to record a plate appearance as Major League Baseball debuted on the West Coast, when the Dodgers played the Giants at Seals Stadium on opening day in 1958. In 1960, he was part of a world championship team as the Pirates captured the title; he recorded 4 hits with an RBI during the 1960 World Series. In 969 career regular season games, he compiled 808 hits with a .265 lifetime batting average; he led the American League in triples during 1962 with 15. Following his baseball career, he worked for UPS. He died from heart and kidney failure.
