A telegram from Wadesboro, N.C., to members of the family in this city, announced the death of Jeff Covington, a well known and well-to-do business man of that city, which occurred at his home in Wadesboro early yesterday morning, aged about 50. His brother, Dr. Furman P. Covington, of this city, who had been summoned to Wadesboro early in the week was with him, as well as his immediate family when he passed to the great beyond.

Mr. Covington was married to Miss Ella Capel, sister of the wife of the late Rev. Ben Gaston Covington, who for a number of years was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Florence and she with seven children, three sons, T. J. Covington Jr. and William Covington, and Robert Covington and four daughters, Misses Sarah, Lucile and Dozine, and Mrs. Larry McLendon of Georgetown survive him.

In addition to these Mr. Covington leaves his father, Terrell Covington of Wadesboro, and four brothers, Henry D. Covington of Pensacola, Fla., Dr. Furman P. Covington of Florence, S.C., Robert Covington of Jacksonville, Fla., and Hampton Covington of Alabama, and one sister, Mrs. Robert L Edwards, now of Pensacola, Fla.

He also leaves two nieces, Mrs. Herman A. Smith and Mrs. Earl Martin, of this city, both of whom left this morning for Wadesboro.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at Wadesboro.

Thomas Jefferson Covington, more familiarly known throughout this section as Jeff Covington, was a good man and his kindly face, genial spirit and charitable disposition will be greatly missed, especially in the walks of the daily life in his home town, Wadesboro.
