The son of Alpheus Pumphrey and Mazie Rogers and the widower of Jean Lentz Pumphrey, he had retired after 31 years of service with the US Government at Aberdeen Proving Ground serving as the Chief of the Supply Divison. He was a life member of the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company, the past president of the Kingsville/Perry Hall Lions Club; past president of the Kingsville Community Association; and an active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Upper Falls, Maryland. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He is survived by one son, Earl "Bud" (Barbara N.) Pumphrey of Maryland; two grandchildren, Todd A. Pumphrey and his fiancee, Dawn Reineke, and Kevin M. (Amy H.) Pumphrey, both of Maryland.
