Mr. Ashley Tanner, Jr. died at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN on April 2, 2007 after many years of heart and kidney disease. The son of the late Ashley Nathaniel Tanner, Sr. and Lois May Johnston Tanner. A graduate of Brighton High School class of 1938. He retired in 1984 as Manager of Tennessee Liquidfied Gas Company in Covington, TN. He loved to take care of his large yard in Brighton and took every opportunity to fish in the Tennessee River where he had a cabin at Sugar Tree.

He was a member of the Brighton Baptist Church for 74 years. He served as a deacon for over 50 years and taught Sunday School for over 60 years. He was also a Mason and member of the Dunham Lodge No. 150 and The Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ella Mae James Tanner; five children, Ashley Nathaniel (Debbie) Tanner, III of Jackson, TN, Diane Kay Tanner Elkins of Bartlett, TN, David James (Darlene) Tanner of Medina, TN, Cheryl Virginia Tanner (Dock) Brown of Oakland, TN, and John Milton (Beth) Tanner of Brighton, TN; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Jane Tanner Simonton of Brighton, TN and Margaret Carmen Tanner Ingram of Munford, TN; one brother, Wayne Hayes Tanner of Germantown, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ashley Nathaniel Tanner, Sr. and Lois May Johnston Tanner and one sister, Nancy Anne Tanner Edman.
