Sara J. Cooper, 88, of Taylor Road, died 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel with the Rev. John Erickson and Pastor Patrick Galligar officiating. Calling will be from noon until service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church or Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Sara retired from Cummins Engine Company after 38 years of service, holding various salaried positions. After retirement she worked as a consultant for Cummins for three years. She later worked for Destination Travel.

She was a former member of North Christian Church where she had served as church secretary and taught Sunday school. She is a current member of First Christian Church where she had served on many committees.

She was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was past president of the Chapter and Exemplar chapter. She was a former member and past president of Columbus Zonta Club.

She was a member of the Indiana Symphony Orchestra Women's committee where she had served as the president and treasurer of the Columbus Unit, and former member and past president of Columbus Score. She had served as the Chairman of the Board for Centra Credit Union; as the president of the Resident's Council for Four Seasons Retirement Center and served on the board of Home Equity Relocation Company for three years.

She enjoyed golf, bridge, needle pointing, sewing, knitting and traveling.

She was born in Columbus, the daughter of Charlie C. and Della Conrad Cooper.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Harlan Lynn Rice of Nashville; nieces, Gracia (Jim) Morton of Painesville, Ohio and Gretchen (Graham) Engdahl of Lady Lake, FL; great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth (Christopher) Miller of Atlanta, GA, Alex Morton of Painesville, Sean Potter of Charlotte, NC, Erin (Mason) Natalino of Candler, FL, and Colin Potter and Skiler Engdahl of Lakeland, FL and four great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Frances Cooper Rice and a nephew, Bradley Scott Rice.
