Rose J. Myers 81, Bismarck, passed away Feb. 10, 2011, at the Baptist Home surrounded by her loving family. A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Lee Herberg officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Rose was born in Nuremburg, Germany to Ludwig and Margarete Schneider on June 3, 1929. She grew up and was educated in Germany during World War II where she had many unique experiences which are too many to mention. After World War II she was a court reporter during the Nuremberg Trials as well as a nurse. Rose married LaMarr Myers on May 6, 1954 in Ansbach, Germany and that fall moved with LaMarr and their children to a small ranch near Timber Lake, S.D. This was quite a change for Rose as their home did not have running water or toilet facilities and was quite a distance from large cities which she was accustomed to. Throughout their life Rose and LaMarr lived on various ranches throughout North Dakota and South Dakota. For a period of seven years Rose owned her own restaurant in Fort Yates where many enjoyed her cooking and baking. She also cooked for an archeological camp north of Fort Yates where she was also their nurse and ‘rattle snake' killer. In 1971 they moved to Mandan, where Rose worked at many restaurants including Jerry's Supper Club, the Gourmet House, Kirkwood Motor Inn, Howard's Sirloin Stockade, Dakota Farms, Lewis and Clark Café, Seven Seas Motor Inn, and the Truck Stop West of Mandan. She worked at Bonanza in Mandan for many years prior to retiring in 2008.

Rose loved baking, gardening and knitting. When anyone came to visit there was always fresh baked pies and cookies. She also liked to can the garden vegetables as well as peaches and applesauce. She taught LaMarr how to knit after his retirement and together they made many scarves, pot holders and blankets.

Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them and tell them many stories of her life in Germany as well as stories of how she adjusted to life on a small ranch in South Dakota.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dick) Melchior, Bismarck; son, Guy (Nancy) Myers, Granby, Colo.; five grandchildren, Jackie (Steve) Weinberger, Breien, Mitch (Sarah) Miller, Ada, Mich., Mick (Kiley) Miller, Mandan, Amy (Jeremy) Westman, Bismarck, and Kelly (Kira) Melchior, Bismarck; and eight great-grandchildren, Jason "LaMarr" Weinberger, Corah and Landon Miller, Kiyana, and Kyler and Camree Miller, Christian Westman and Logan Melchior.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LaMarr, who passed away in May of 2008; her parents; and one son, Gary.
