"Hattie Gall Henning was born April 15, 1895, the daughter of William and Anna Gall in Ramsey County. She received elementary education in a one-room rural school, attended high school in White Bear Lake and graduated with honors in 1913. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, graduated cum laude from nursing school, was awarded R.N. and public health certificates and earned the bachelor of science degree. She worked as staff nurse at the University Student Health Service for a year and was employed by the Infant Welfare Society of Minneapolis as a staff nurse-education director and supervisor of clinic.
"She married Henry J. Henning in 1932, and subsequently resigned from Infant Welfare in 1933 and became a citizen of Otter Tail County that year.
"In Pelican Rapids her interest and dedication in public health and community affairs continued. She worked with Margaret Sherin in Campfire Girls and was a member of the Women's Community Club and the Congregational Church where she was active as a Sunday School teacher and participated in the activities of the women's organizations.
"On the county level, Mrs. Henning served on the Public Health Nursing Committee and spent much time demonstrating and teaching at county fairs, 4-H and Farmers Club Meetings. A County Public Health Service was eventually established due in part to her efforts. This activity has grown today to the point where both east and west Otter Tail have functioning services.
