Edward J. Mersch, 89, formerly of 1230 LaFayette St., LaSalle, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle, where he had resided for the last 6 months.
    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru, and at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, LaSalle, with Rev. William A. Ryan officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery with military graveside rites by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
    Mr. Mersch was born April 1, 1913 in LaSalle To Herman and Mary (Harrington) Mersch. He married Mary Zandecki on June 24, 1944 in St. Hyacinth's Church, LaSalle. He served as a Master Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Force In WW II at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He had been a personal supervisor at Carus Chemical, LaSalle, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church where he had served as an usher, Holy Name Society, LaSalle Knights of Columbus, and had served on the Board of Directors at Illinois Valley Community Hospital.
    Surviving are his wife Mary, 2 daughters: Edna (Lyle) Rolfe of Aurora and Linda (John) Micheli of Dalzell, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a sister Ann (Robert) Ebener of Oglesby, a brother Eugene (Irene) Mersch of East Moline and nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Michael Rolfe, and 2 brothers.
