FRANK BABCOCK TAKEN BY DEATH

Pioneer Lived In Whitman County Since 1881, Rite To be Held Today

St. John, Wash., April 16-- Frank B. Babcock, 62, died at his home on Rock Creek, two miles northwest of St. John today, came to Whitman County in 1881 from California, where his parents came in pioneer days.

Mr. Babcock was a former instructor at the Cheney Normal School, from which he graduated when it was an academy. He was also a graduate of the Spokane M. E. College and had a master's degree from the Puget Sound M. E. College in Tacoma, of which he was a trustee for several years. From 1898 to 1903 he was vice principal of the Cheney Normal School.

Before the World War, he was noted as the "land and cattle King of Whitman county."

Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. E. Spencer of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two sons, Herbert of St. John and Ben, a teacher in Spokane County.

Funeral services will be held at the Rock Lake home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be William Damrell; Edward Damrell; Robert Cowan, Arthur Phinney, Claude Buchet and Robert Wallace.
