Carolyn Frazier (Beebe) Ogden, former Cottonwood resident, died in Prescott on Oct. 2, 2006. She was born at home in Stillman Valley, Ill., on March 23, 1923. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. H. Beebe.
Carol was the wife of the late Frank B. Ogden for 59 years. She graduated from Rockford College with a BA in music (piano and voice). After World War II ended, she and Frank joined his family business in Clinton, Iowa. In 1956 Carol and her family moved to Phoenix and then to the Verde Valley near Cottonwood, where they owned and operated a commercial Hereford and Charolais cattle ranch. They sold the ranch in the early '70s and moved to Scottsdale, where she finally was able to pursue a musical career. She performed as a Phoenix Symphony Opera soprano and rehearsal accompanist for the Arizona Masterworks Chorale during the '70s and '80s. Carol and Frank returned to Yavapai County in 1991 (Dewey) and then to their final residence in Prescott in 1996.
Music was her life-long avocation and profession. She helped initiate community concerts in the Verde Valley in the late '50s and '60s. She helped create two Congregational Churches and their choirs in Sedona (what became Church of the Red Rocks) and Cottonwood. While a resident of Las Fuentes Resort Village in Prescott she actively led and participated in many musical events such as playing piano and singing in monthly sing-alongs, talent shows, luncheons and other events.
Carol was one of the original founders of the Marcus J. Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies). She was a 59-year active member of the PEO sorority and was a member of the Yavapai Cowbelles for many years.
Carol is survived by two sons, Frank E. of Cottonwood, Charles A. of Scottsdale, their wives, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (with two more due in February).
Graveside memorial services will be held at Heritage (formerly Redwood) Memorial Park, Dewey, on Saturday Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in her name to the Arizona Cattle Industry Research and Education Foundation, Scholarship Fund, 1401 N. 24th St., Suite 4, Phoenix AZ 85009, or Hospice Family Care, 100 E. Sheldon, Suite 100 Prescott AZ 86301. Services entrusted to Heritage Memory Mortuary.
