James "Jim" "Blackey" Blackstock, 59, of Florence, Ala., died Feb. 10, 2011.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, in the chapel, with burial in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Brother Mark Mayfield.
He was preceded in death by his son, James "Jake" Blackstock Jr.; parents, Robert and Marie Blackstock; and nephew, James Jordan.
Survivors include daughter, Beth Morris and husband, Courtney; grandsons, Drew and Zach Morris; brothers, Danny Blackstock, George Blackstock (Pat) and Huey Blackstock (Janice); sisters, Ann Romans, Shirley Lanier, Darlene Jordan, Patricia Blackstock, Susie Horton (Ed) and Angela Porter; goddaughters, Stacey Glover (Bryant) and Kim Gist (Nick); godson, Huey "Bubba" Blackstock; host of loving nieces and nephews; and his dog, Girl-Girl.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was an avid Alabama fan. His pride and job were his grandboys, and he always had gum-gum ready for his boys when he saw them. His family is going to miss getting their 5 a.m. phone call on their birthday because he always wanted to be the first one to say "Happy Birthday." James was saved at an early age and was of the Baptist faith.
Pallbearers will be Ray Blackstock, Timothy Blackstock, George Blackstock, Edwin Horton, Huey "Bubba" Blackstock, Justin Anderson and Jeremy Anderson.
"And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4.
