Anna Louise Cheeney, age 74, of Ely died Friday, January 21, 2011 at her vacation home in Apache Junction Arizona.


She was born on August 18, 1936 to Bernard and Anna (Fritzlar) Poegel in Long Prairie MN and attended school there.


She married August Cheeney on August 4, 1969. In 1972 August and Anna moved to Isabella MN and purchased Chub Lake Resort. In 1975 they moved to Ely and were foster parents for 10 years, caring for 34 foster children during that time.


Anna was a homemaker. She worked at Dorothy Molter Museum for many years and was a member of the Ely Moose Lodge. Anna enjoyed bowling, Texas Hold'em, smear, pond turning, barbeques and especially spending time with her family.


She is survived by her children: Linda (Alan) Mosher, JoAnn Calkins, Cindy (Chas) Johnson, Kerry Lee and her stepchildren; grandchildren: Christopher Mosher, David (Crystal) Mosher, Amanda (Paul) Jiacik, Krista and Aaron; great-grandchildren: Braydin and Kylie Mosher and Krista's children: Hanna, Drake, Jonathan and Svanna; a special nephew Ben (Julie) Karnes; special friends: the Jones, Curt Brown and Bob Makowski.


Anna was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, husband August and daughter, Jody Lynn who died in November 1993.
