Paul Eugene Martin

Paul Eugene Martin, 67, a resident of Rt. 1, Cheshire (Roush Lane) died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday at his home. Mr. Martin had been in failing health the past six months.

A retired Cheshire businessman, Mr. Martin was born June 3, 1912, in Cardington, Ohio, son of the late Luther and Sallie Ward Martin.

He married Jewell Neville on Dec. 13, 1936, in Gallipolis. She survives, along with one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Katie) Shoemaker, Cheshire. One grandson survives.

Two brothers and one sister survive: Harold, Cheshire and John, Rt. 1, Gallipolis, and Miss Lucy Martin, Cheshire.

He resided in Cheshire Twp. for 66 years. He attended Cheshire Baptist Church. He was an avid sportsman.

After graduating from Cheshire High School in 1931, he owned and operated a Standard Oil Station and garage in Cheshire for more than 42 years. The station was located where the Gavin Power Plant now stands.

Mr. Martin was employed by the Ohio Power Co., during construction of the Gavin Plant in the 1970s.

He was one of the two oldest businessmen in Cheshire. During his business career, Mr. Martin supported many civic affairs in the Cheshire community. He was a bus driver for the Cheshire schools in the early 1940s.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Alfred Holley and Rev. William Uber officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 until 9 p.m. on Friday.
