William M. Rake, son of Elias and Emily Rake was born at Monietta, Ohio [ Marietta, Ohio ], Feb. 23, 1861, and died at his home in Bennington, Kans. August 27, 1936, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 4 days.

In 1880 he was married to Sarah King of Monietta [ Marietta ], Ohio. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Mary Porter of Glasco, Kans. and Stella who died in infancy. In 1883 his wife died and with his daughter he moved to Kansas to make their home. In 1896 he was married to Miss Elsie Stockwell of Minneapolis, Kans. To this union were born two children, Charles Rake of Bennington, Kansas, and Ethel Irene who died July 9, 1899.

About thirty-five years ago he was baptized and united with the Evangelical church at Darling Point and later transferred his membership to the Methodist church in Bennington. He was a kind and loving father and husband and made many friends who will miss his kindly words and cheerful smile. He was strong in his faith of Eternal life and looked forward to his going to meet his loved ones in Heaven.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Elsie Rake, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Porter of Glasco, and one son Charles Rake of Bennington; one granddaughter, Mrs. Rose Cooper and one great grand son, Milton Cooper of Glasco; one brother Don Snider of Delphos, Kans., and one sister, Mrs. Laura Drake of Bennington and a number of relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Bennington at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. J.W. Snapp.
