Robert Joe Veal, Sr., 89, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was retired Deputy Chief for the City of Dyersburg Fire Department, U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, Pacific Theatre, where he received the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart Medal, and a member of Dyersburg Fire Department for 35 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. Don Williams, Bro. Rudy Ring and Bro. Joe Wright officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Mozell Veal of Dyersburg; a daughter, Loletia Chandler and husband, David, of Pachuta, MS.; two sons, Bob Veal and wife, Shonda, and Tony Veal and wife, Susan, all of Dyersburg; a step-son, Dempsey Bivens of Union City; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Jewel Veal; a daughter, Patricia Jean Veal; a son, Gary Ernest Veal; and his parents, Robert "Bob" and Lillian Deaton Veal.
Pallbearers will be Members of the Dyersburg Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Stanley, Eli Veal, Adam Veal, Mackie Joslin, Cysler Joslin, Larry Putman and Richard Wyrick.
