Mrs. Chapman passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 10, 2011, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Chapman was born Aug. 8, 1911, in Peerless, the daughter of Elvy Jones and Jenny Jones.
Educated first at Peerless, then at East Texas State Teachers College, she taught school for nine years in Hopkins County before marrying Joe N. Chapman in Sulphur Springs on Aug. 7, 1937. Mr. Chapman, a former Texas State Representative, local attorney and state district judge, preceded her in death on March 9, 1972.
Mrs. Chapman was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Hamilton Bible Class. She was active in The Standard Club and many other local clubs and organizations.
She is survived by one son, Jim Chapman of Horseshoe Bay; two grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Chapman Banda and husband, Burke, of Austin and Trey Chapman and wife, Melissa, of Dallas; and four great-grandchildren, Brice and Lizzie Banda of Austin and Tyler and Graham Chapman of Dallas.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Joe N. Chapman Jr., on Oct. 20, 2008, and two brothers, Loyd and Louis Chapman.
The family requests any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
