Alvin C. Green, son of John Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Parish Green, was born October 23, 1905, near Decaturville. He departed this life Saturday, February 18, 1995, in Brooking Park in Chesterfield, at the age of eighty-nine years, three months, and twenty-five days. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Roy Orville Green; and a sister, Rose Belle Green Maness.

On April 10, 1929, he was united in marriage to Margie A. York, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Margie, of 65 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty June and William Bradshaw, of Chesterfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Alvin and Debbie Green, of Santa Barbara, California; five grandchildren, Ann Bradshaw Nord, Heidi Bradshaw Shepherd, York Bradshaw, Rebekah Bradshaw, and Rachel Green; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Nichole Nord, and Stephanie and Will Shepherd; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

He was born and raised near Decaturville in Camden County. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Worth, Arkansas, where they lived for a few years. The family then returned to Decaturville where his father, John, established a general store. In 1929, Alvin moved a store building in old Linn Creek to Decaturville. He purchased the inventory from his father, and he and Margie became owners of the General Mercantile Store in Decaturville on Highway 5. After selling the store, he helped in building Fort Leonard Wood and Camp Crowder, and he also operated a long haul trucking business for several years. In 1943, he purchased the Harry Hooker Chrysler Automobile Dealership in Lebanon and changed the name to Alvin Green Motors. After 35 years in business, he sold the motor company and retired in 1978. For the last year, he and Marge had made their home in Chesterfield near their daughter.

Alvin made his profession of faith in Christ and became a long time member of First Baptist Church in 1945, where he served as a Deacon for 40 years. He also was a member of the Rotary Club for many years and was named a Paul Harris Fellow.

He liked spending some of his retirement at his lake home where he enjoyed fishing, boating, and his grandchildren. He also found pleasure in planting and working in his garden each year.

Alvin was a loving man, a dedicated businessman, and a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and many friends.

Services were held for Alvin C. Green at 11 a.m. Monday, February 20, 1995, at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon with Dr. Robert Taylor and Rev. Gary Longenecker officiating. Burial was in the Mount Rose Memorial Park under the direction of Holman Funeral Home. Music was provided by Kenneth Howe, vocalist, and Ken Burd, organist. Selections were "Because He Lives" and "In The Garden."

Escorts were First Baptist Church Deacons: Junior Kelso, Farris Monson, Bill Luallin, Steve Scott, Virgil Miller, and Bob Taylor.
