Son of Pearley Dunaway and Sarah Perkins Greer from Pike County, Mississippi. He enlisted on April 25, 1862 at Holmesville, Mississippi for "3 years or the war". Listed on August 29, 1864 as "sick in hospital", but later returned. He lost two brothers in the war, Pvt. John C. Dunaway killed at Corinth, Mississippi on October 4, 1862 and Pvt. William Dunaway mortally wounded in July, 1864 and died in Atlanta, Georgia August 14, 1864.
