He was the son of Etheldred & Sarah (Davidson) May. Married Mary A. Brumfield 03 June 1853 Pike Co., Mississippi. He enlisted on March 10, 1862 in Amite County, Mississippi for three years. Promoted to Cpl. March 1, 1863, and to 4th Sgt. May, 1864. He was then absent sick on July 15, 1864 and returned in September, 1864. His final promotion was to 2nd Sgt. in September, 1864. Mortally wounded in the thigh (which was amputated) on November 30th and died in a Franklin Confederate Hospital in December, 1864. His widow Mary applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension while living in Boggue Chitto, Lincoln County, Mississippi on August 10,1916. It was approved.
