My Dad was fondly referred to as "Miltie" by his older sisters who lovingly fussed over him even when he was a grown man. This was because he was so darn cute, endlessly generous and truly devoted to his extended family.

Milton was the 6th child and 2nd son born to John Arthur Gill and Angela Cabral. In the decade or so following his birth, Milt would be joined by 8 more brothers and sisters. He dearly loved them all and he was fiercely loyal to each and every one.

Life was not easy for my Dad and his large family during the Post-Depression years in San Francisco. But, this was a man who never felt sorry for himself. He never, ever complained to his children about the hardships I know he endured.

Dad was one heck of a provider. He made sure his family had every one of life's necessities and lovely comfortable homes, including a beautiful "summer home" at the Russian River where we lived all summer long. Dad was naturally selfless. It made him happy to give to others.

As anyone who knew my Dad will attest, he was a tireless worker. Dad was mentored by a brother-in-law into the painting trade and, he was also a talented, self taught craftsman who excelled at everything from bricklaying and carpentry to wallpaper hanging, electrical and roofing. Dad took pleasure in creating beautiful high quality improvements and additions to our homes including, professional looking landscaped gardens, stairs and decks. Dad's work ethic was second to none.

As a young man he served his country during the Korean War Era. He trained at Ft.Bliss, Texas, Btry B 728th AAA Bn. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army and the California National Guard.

As a member of San Francisco Painters and Tapers Union Local 4, Milt was a well liked and respected painter and decorator. In 1992 he achieved the honor of being named a "Life Member" of The International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades.

Sadly, due to illness, Dad did not have the opportunity to enjoy the retirement life he so richly deserved.

Dad was laid to rest under a clear blue sky on a beautiful February afternoon with full military honors at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Oregon. He was survived by a daughter, two sons, two grand-daughters and many relatives who hold dear to fond memories of Milton.
