The last of four children born in Albia, Iowa to Clarence Hart Davis and Lily Harris. In 1942 he married in Detroit, Michigan the night before shipping out for basic training in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he served as a bandsman and remained for ten years. He was stationed in Detroit, Michigan as well as Harlingen and Denison, Texas. After his discharge he lived in Ypsilanti, Michigan and worked for General Motors Hydramatic Division until his retirement. He had two daughters.
