I am researching and related to the CT-OH Curtiss family line of of which Fred's maternal gmo. stems: sources below are 1920's passports, census, city directories, birth and death records, and HeritageQuest. This bio will focus more on family life.

According to her death certificate, Margaret was born 3 Nov 1864, Govenors Island, NY, (an Army base at that time), daughter of Frank BROWN and ? Jose (to be researched, cannot find a Margaret with Frank Brown), in 1900 census she lists them both born Ireland, thereafter New York. Her daughters death certificates confuse her being born in Spain and her maiden name being Jose, possibly that was Margaret's mother, 1870 & '80 census to be checked. Her year of birth changes each census: 1861, 1863, 1864, 1867, and her headstone has 1870. daughters changed their dates but hard to argue with 1900 census.

in a, the only surname close to "Jose" with Brown marriage is
GROOM: Joannes Franciscum Brown, 3 Jan 1858, Buffalo, Erie, New York,
Father's Name: Petri Stephani and Mother's Name: Mariae Josephae Noirat

Why did Fred move to NYC? The couple first lived in Jersey City, NJ until 1896 then to Brooklyn, NY (according to Norma's 1924 passport application and census) had three daughters by 1900.
