Frederick is the son of Clark Howard and Amelia Appleton (Stage) Stedge. He married Emma Jordon on 28 Jul 1894 in Horseheads, Chemung Co. N.Y.. He was a Slate Roofer by trade. They had no children.

The death of Frederick Stedge, aged twenty-six years, occurred yesterday afternoon at the Arnot-Ogden hospital. Death was due to appendicitis. The deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Amelia Stedge; three brothers, Edward, John and Burt, and three sisters, Mrs. Della [or Delia] Buchholz, Mrs. Carrie Carroll and Mrs. May Moore all of this city. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon ad 3 o'clock at the home of his mother, No. 50 High street. Rev. F. W. Reynolds will officiate. Interment in Woodlawn."
