Manie Pearl Duke Brake of Lake of the Hills, Lake Wales, formerly of High Falls, N.Y., died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Lake Wales Medical Centers Extended Care Facility. She was 78.


Services were held Friday, May 24, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, in Lake Wales, with Rev. Thomas C. Seitz officiating. Interment followed at the Lake Wales Cemetery.


Born Aug. 6, 1923, in Hardinsburg, Ky., she moved to Lake Wales 30 years ago from High Falls. She was a retired seamstress and waitress for Lake Wales' Chalet Suzanne. Her quilting work was displayed at the Lake Wales Depot Museum during the Pioneer Days Quilt Show. She was also known for her love of music and guitar playing. She was of Protestant faith.


She was preceded in death by her husband, George V. Brake; and her grandson, John Wynkoop.


Survivors include daughters, Jeanne Marie Sisco and Becky Wynkoop, both of Lake Wales, and Georgeanna Broders of Port Townsend, Wash.; sisters, Jessie Turner of Minneola, Fla., Jane Shearer of Shelby, Ohio, and Ethel Mae Hahn of Spokane, Wash.; and two grandsons.


Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Wales was in charge of arrangements.
